GARLAND, Utah (AP) — A man is in critical condition after he crashed his car into a school while fleeing Garland police.

KUTV in Salt Lake City reports (http://bit.ly/24YNceR) that the pursuit in Box Elder County began when police received call about vandalism at 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

A woman reported that her ex-husband had slashed her tires.

Police Chief Chad Soffe says the ex-husband sped off in his car when officers arrived at his home.

Soffe says the suspect the crashed his car into Garland Elementary School while traveling between 60 and 70 mph.

According to police, he was not wearing a seat belt and suffered head trauma.

He was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.

He is facing charges of vandalism and trespassing.

Investigators are testing his blood for signs of impairment.
