LOGAN — A 21-year-old Smithfield man has been arrested for allegedly extorting a woman, according to law enforcement. Cole S. Finlinson was booked temporarily Wednesday into the Cache County Jail.

According to an arrest report, Smithfield City Police officers received a 911 call from a woman, who claimed Finlinson sent pornographic photos of her to a family member. The alleged victim had previously filed a protective order against the suspect after the two had broken up.

Police responded to Finlinson’s residence and seized the photos as evidence. The suspect allegedly told officers that he had used a “burner phone app to send the photos,” the report stated.

Finlinson mentioned to police that he was frustrated with the victim for having a protective order served against him. He reportedly admitted that he wanted to show the victim’s parents that she wasn’t a “really innocent girl,” according to the report.

Court records show, Finlinson was served with the protective order on Monday that prohibited contact, either directly or indirectly, between the suspect and the victim.

Jail records show, Finlinson was booked on two counts of sexual extortion, a second-degree felony; and violation of a protective order, a class A misdemeanor. He was later released, pending formal charges.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
