More than ever, people are giving others glimpses or more into their day-to-day lives on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. But there is also the problem of over-sharing information.
On KVNU’s For the People program on Wednesday, Cache Valley-based marketing & strategic management professional Jessica Dunyon says it happens with individuals’ personal lives but also in business.
She said, “I think we all have that one friend on Facebook who overshares too much information that most of us would deem private. It’s typically along the lines, for me, it’s medical information”
On the other hand, Dunyon said when there is a tragedy or prolonged trial that one is going through and you want to get information out to a large group of people, platforms like Facebook are very useful.
“I have friends who have used Facebook to communicate during times of medical tragedies so that (they) can update a lot of people all at once. Because then you don’t have to field the phone calls. You don’t have to explain-‘Hey we can’t have visitors right now’. They’ve created a group where they can share that type of information”, said Dunyon.
It can become an online family newsletter that you update on a regular basis. Dunyon said celebrities and businesses use their social media in this manner as well.
