The popular radio show and podcast ‘Selected Shorts’ will bring three stars of movies, theater and television to Logan for a live performance on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Ellen Eccles Theatre in downtown Logan. They are (from left) Kimberly Guerrero, Richard Masur and Kirsten Vangsness.
LOGAN – Three talented performers will blend the magic of short fiction and the art of lively storytelling when the Cache Valley Center for the Arts presents Select Shorts on Saturday, Nov. 4.
Selected Shorts is being jointly sponsored by CacheARTS and Utah Public Radio as part of the 2023-24 National Touring Season at the Ellen Eccles Theatre in downtown Logan.
That presentation will be a live stage version of the hit radio show and podcast that is heard on 130 stations throughout the U.S., including UPR here in Logan.
The goal of Selected Shorts broadcasts and live performances is have great actors reacquaint audiences with the magic of fiction one short story at a time.
Through reading performances by Kimberly Guerrero, Richard Masur and Kristen Vangsness on Nov. 4, Selected Shorts will deliver a quartet of funny, moving and captivating short stories that celebrate the wonder and beauty of the natural world.
After a 45-year career on stage, in movies and on television, actor Richard Masur is well known to American audiences.
He has appeared in more than 60 feature films including The Thing, Risky Business, My Girl and License to Drive. Masur’s television career has include the situation comedies Hot l Baltimore, One Day at a Time and Rhoda as well as more recent episodes of The Good Wife, The Equalizer and Kaleidoscope. His Broadway stage credits include Lucky Guy, Democracy and The Changing Room.
Kimberley Guerrero is a contemporary Native American storyteller who works in film, television and theater.
Her recent television acting has included Reservation Dogs on Hulu, Rutherford Falls on Peacock and The English on Amazon Prime. Ms. Guerrero also appeared opposite Julianne Moore in the Gloria Steinem biopic The Glorias.
Her stage credits include originating the role of Johanna in the award-winning August: Osage County and appearing in Manahatta at the Public Theatre in New York and The Frybread Queen at Native Voices in Los Angeles.
Ms. Guerrero is also an associate professor and artistic director at the University of California – Riverside.
In addition to her career as an actor, Kristen Vangsness is also visibly active in the LGBTQ community.
She comes to Selected Shorts fresh off a run in Lottie Pratchett Took a Hatchet at the Los Angeles LGBTQ Center and also appeared in Nimrod at the Theatre of NOTE. Ms. Vangsness is perhaps best known for playing Penelope Garcia in the long-running hit drama Criminal Minds on Paramount+.
She has also starred in the film noir spoof Kill Me, Deadly and appeared in the feminist time-travel musical Cleo, Theo & Wu at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Selected Shorts has been produced by Symphony Space in New York City since 1985.
Selected Shorts was conceived with a simple premise: take great stories by well-known and emerging writers and have them performed by terrific actors of stage and screen.
Featuring stories around a lively central theme, the favorite works of a guest author or a special collaboration, each Selected Shorts event is a unique night of literature in performance.
The stories presented live at Selected Shorts are often featured on the hit public radio show and podcast, which reaches hundreds of thousands of listeners on over 130 stations and streaming services each week.
Each year, the Cache Valley Center for the Arts brings the best of national and international talent to the Ellen Eccles Theatre as part of its CacheARTS season.
