December 22, 1936 ~ September 29, 2023 (age 86)

Three days before Christmas 1936. In a dirt floored shack in Porterville Utah, Scott O’neil Mikesell was born to Virginia and Samuel Mikesell. He was born into a world where the places around him had names like, Poverty Flats, and Hardscrabble. Hardscrabble is a fitting word for his life from the start. That shack, had walls that he could crawl under to get in and out of the house and he and his older brothers made their beds on the ground of the back porch each night the year round.

As he grew, he learned to work hard and became a man of firm convictions. He loved his God, his Family, and his Country, and his life was spent in the service of all three. He worked hard to provide for his family and faced employment setbacks with determination. He served his God in many leadership roles in his LDS Ward and Stake. He served Sunset City as a city councilman for years.

Perhaps, however, the service that will be most fondly remembered by those he leaves behind was the one that allowed him to combine all three of these loves; caretaker of Cobble Creek Camp, near Huntsville, Ut. Many, many days were spent with family there; working, playing, learning life lessons, and being stewards of a beautiful piece of this country.

As a family, even though it pains us to say goodbye for a time, we are happy that he and his High school sweetheart, Danice (Alldredge) have been reunited and that their time apart was brief.

He is survived by: his four children: Russell (Cathy) Mikesell, Pamela (Rex) Giles, Michelle (Norman) Noyes, and Garth (Linda) Mikesell. Also, by 30 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one sister Peggy Grossnickle.

He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Danice, his parents Samuel and Virginia, his 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

As a family we express Gratitude to those who have cared for him over the last couple of years. Whether you are family, friend, or hospice you have our most sincere gratitude.

Farewell Grandpa. Pass along our love to Grandma. Hurry now, she’s waiting for you just beyond the moon.

A viewing will be held Thursday, October 5, 2023 9:30-10:15 AM at Myers Mortuary 5865 S 1900 W Roy, Utah with a Graveside service following at the Hooper City Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his wife.

Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at Myers Mortuary.
