LOGAN — Law enforcement is warning skiers and snow boarders to stay in bounds at Beaver Mountain after Search and Rescue teams were called out to find a lost pair of skiers Monday afternoon. The father and son contacted 911 after going outside the resort’s boundary and becoming disoriented.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Roy Hall said emergency dispatchers received a satellite text message from the pair just before 4 p.m. The man and 11-year-old boy explained how they had gone outside the resort’s boundary and wound up lost near the Peterson Hollow area, near Franklin Basin.

Emergency dispatchers made contact with the Beaver Mountain Ski-Patrol and notified them of the lost skiers. The ski-patrol began searching and requested the assistance of Search and Rescue teams because of the approaching nightfall.

Hall said as searchers arrived, the lost skiers were safely located. The father and son were checked and appeared healthy and unharmed.

Search and Rescue members guided the skiers down to the Franklin Basin Road and then transported them back to the Beaver Mountain parking lot.

The skiers’ identities were not released.

Searchers offered the father and son some friendly and unsolicited advice, applicable to everyone. “This included a kind but serious plea to stay in-bounds when skiing at Beaver Mountain,” said Hall.

The Cache County Sheriff’s Office expressed their appreciation for the staff at Beaver Mountain. They noted how the ski patrol was vigilant in locating the lost skiers.

Hall said, “There are grateful hearts tonight as lost loved ones have been found thanks to the selfless efforts of others.” He expressed gratitude to the many Search and Rescue team members who immediately left behind whatever it was they were each doing when the call came and they voluntarily responded.
