Richard Paul Evans, author of Michael Vey: The Traitor

LOGAN — One of Utah’s more famous authors will be in Logan for a rare book signing tonight, Sept. 21. Richard Paul Evans will be at The Book Table, 29 S. Main Street, beginning at 6 p.m.

Evans will be promoting his newest book, Michael Vey: The Traitor. It is the ninth book in the young adult series. He said the story has resonated with readers around the world since the first book was released in 2011.

“Michael Vey is a 15-year-old young man with Tourette Syndrome and electric powers,” explained Evans. “He is actually one of 17 kids but he doesn’t know that when the series starts. Together they call themselves the Electroclan and they have various battles against a sinister force that is trying to control the world.”

Michael Vey: The Traitor hit bookshelves on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Readers who don’t already have a copy yet will be able to purchase one and other books from Evans during tonight’s book signing.

For those who are fans of the series, Evans said they are going to have two surprises for tonight’s event at The Book Table.

“We’re bring the Michal Vey car with us,” the author explained. “If you haven’t seen the Michael Vey car, it’s mind blowing. You’ll want a picture next to it. And we are also bringing posters for everyone who comes.”

Evans started writing the series, book number eight, during the pandemic and realized that there was a lot more to the story he wanted to tell. In The Traitor, the Electroclan must fight a former friend to save their captured ally.

Evans has written 41 consecutive New York Times bestsellers and is one of the few authors in history to have hit both the fiction and non-fiction bestseller lists. Later this year, the author, who has become known as “King of Christmas fiction,” will be re-releasing his bestselling book just in time for the holidays.

“I don’t have a new Christmas book coming out,” he admitted. “My publisher is releasing the 30th anniversary of The Christmas Box. It has been 30 years and so I wrote a new forward for the book and that is what we are releasing.”

Evans lives in Salt Lake City, with his wife, Keri, and their five children and two grandchildren.
