WELLSVILLE — In addition to other resources locally, another Cache Valley organization, Avenues of Hope, has as their mission a commitment to help fight the war against suicide.

On KVNU’s For the People program last week, Lisa Mitchell said their goal is to help people find human connection and a sense of belonging.

“We just truly believe that if people have that sense of belonging, that they will have better mental health and be able to heal, and be able to live a full and happy life,” she explained.

Mitchell said the more that people openly discuss suicide and mental health it creates a safe place for people who are struggling to open up and talk. Avenues of Hope offers various help including music therapy programs, coaching programs and also horses.

“We are trying to gather resources, trying to find ways that individuals can connect, because talk therapy doesn’t work for everyone. So we have music therapy, we have equine therapy that we can hook people up with, and it is really a proven effective therapy to help touch people’s lives.”

This coming Saturday, July 9th, they are sponsoring a Run for Hope in Wellsville. The cost is $25 dollars for the 5K and free for a one mile run for kids.  The run begins at 8a.m.

“It will be at Wellsville city’s square park, if you’re not familiar with Wellsville that is where the tabernacle is, there’s a little park there and everything will take place right there. The race will begin there and end there and it will be fun. It is feasible for anyone who wants to come out and run or walk, it will be a great time to get together and just share our positive energy with each other”

Mitchell said that’s one of the things they want to do, is by having these events that they can just together and really support each other. You can get more details at AvenuesofHope.net
