LOGAN — A 22-year-old Providence man who was arrested in January for allegedly assaulting a woman has been cleared of any criminal charges.
William Carter Murdock was briefly booked into the Cache County Jail after Cache County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a domestic dispute Jan. 22. He was later charged with one count of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.
According to court records, Murdock appeared Aug. 22 for a preliminary hearing, where a judge would have determined whether or not there was sufficient evidence to justify the charges. Instead, prosecutors requested to dismiss the case without prejudice, meaning they could be refiled at a later date.
In a statement to News Talk KVNU, Murdock expressed appreciation for his attorney, Shannon Demler, for representing him in court. He also thanked friends and family members, for having his back during this tough time.
Court records show the case against Murdock was closed following prosecutor’s request to dismiss the charge.
Murdock said he has been inspired to keep fighting by his brother, Wesley Murdock, who is currently battling cancer.
