LOGAN — A 42-year-old Paradise man is headed to jail for terrorizing a woman and her children for years. Cesar Sanchez was sentenced to serve two months behind bars, after apologizing to the court.

Sanchez was sentenced Monday, July 22, in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously pleaded guilty to aggravated abuse, a third-degree felony; and misdemeanors for assault, threat of violence, obstructing justice, intoxication, violating a protective order and failing to disclose identity.

According to prosecutors, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies began investigating Sanchez after a woman called 911 reporting years of abuse to herself and children. The allegations spanned over a 15 to 20 year period.

On one occasion, Sanchez kicked a 12-year-old girl in the face while wearing steel-toed work boots, after becoming angry with her for burning some food. He was reportedly drunk and high at the time.

The woman filed several protective orders against Sanchez. Despite the restrictions in place, she reported Sanchez attempted to contact her several times, once at a department store and later calling her on the phone. Deputies later obtained surveillance video and call logs to confirm the violations.

During Monday’s sentencing, defense attorney Aubri Thomas said her client was going through a lot of stress at the time of the crimes.

The victim told the court how she lived with Sanchez’s abuse, ever since she was 15-years-old. She described how the defendant would make her feel guilty for his actions.

Sanchez said he regretted what he did and hoped to become a better person.

Judge Spencer Walsh sentenced Sanchez to 60 days in jail and signed a protective order, prohibiting the defendant from having contact with the victim. He told him, “You have got to find a way to resolve issues without violence.”
