There are people who believe the Logan-Cache Airport is used mainly by people who can afford to own or rent an airplane to do recreational flying. Garr Walton, a member of the Airport Authority Board and longtime flying advocate, said nothing could be further from the truth.

On KVNU’s For the People program Tuesday, Walton said less than 3 or 4 percent of those who use the airport are recreational users and an estimated 5 to 10 percent of the usage is in the category of freight.

Instead, he said the airport has an important impact on the local economy.

“We feel that the companies that use the airport either are constantly receiving visitors to their business,” Walton stated, “or own their own airplane and fly their executives to many destinations around the country and around the world. Total revenue generated by these companies is approximately $5 billion a year.”

Walton said more than 78,000 gallons of fuel were pumped last year at the airport and a lot of that is generated by three flight schools, led by the Utah State University Flight School with more than 300 people enrolled.
