LOGAN – The Logan Library will host another of its author book signings on Oct. 10. The featured writer for that event will be noted mystery author Craig Johnson.
Johnson is best known for his popular writings about Sheriff Walt Longmire of the fictional Absaroka County in Wyoming.
An alumni of Marshall University in West Virginia, Johnson began writing the Longmire series in 2004. As of March 2025, he has written 21 novels, two novellas and uncounted short stories featuring the fictional hero and a colorful collection of other characters.
In 2012, Warner Horizon studios adapted the Longmire main characters and the Wyoming setting of Johnson’s novels for the Arts & Entertainment network on television.
Filmed in New Mexico, the A&E series premiered in June of 2012, starring Robert Taylor, Katee Sackoff and Lou Diamond Phillips.
Longmire debuted as A&E’s most popular series of all time with 4.1 million viewers. The show was cancelled after three seasons by A&E, but lived for another three seasons on Netflix.
The success of Johnson’s novels is celebrated in an annual festival, called Longmire Days, held in the small town of Buffalo, WY. The event draws more than 12,000 people annually, including the author, many of the actors from the TV series and various publishers/producers.
Johnson lives on a ranch near the small artists’ colony of Ucross, which is close to being Wyoming’s smallest town with a population of 25.
The author’s book signing at the Logan Library is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
