LOGAN — A 72-year-old Nibley man has been arrested for sexually assaulting a young girl several years ago, according to law enforcement. Curtis D. Rudd was booked Wednesday into the Cache County Jail following an investigation.

According to the arrest report, the father of the alleged victim contacted law enforcement after Rudd allegedly disclosed the crime to him. The suspect admitted to inappropriately touching the young girl three years ago, while he was caring for the child at his home.

The father told Cache County Sheriff’s deputies, Rudd had first confessed the crime to his church clergy. Multiple family members later verified the suspect had disclosed the same incident to them, “saying he made a huge mistake and would probably be going to jail,” the report described.

Deputies determined the juvenile victim would have been an infant at the time of the incident.

According to jail records, Rudd was booked on suspicion of rape of a child, a first-degree felony. He is being held temporarily without bail, pending arraignment of formal charges.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
