LOGAN — A 50-year-old Nibley man has been arrested and charged with molesting and later raping a young girl years ago. Luis Leon was booked into the Cache County Jail Friday.

According to an arrest affidavit, the alleged victim contacted deputies at the Cache County Sheriff’s Office in April. She claimed Leon, a family acquaintance, sexually abused her multiple times inside his home, between 2008 and 2012.

The alleged victim provided deputies with a recorded phone call, where she confronted Leon about the allegations. During the recording, he blamed his actions on being sexually abused in a similar way when he was a child. He also claimed that he thought it was normal and asked for forgiveness.

Deputies questioned Leon at the sheriff’s office. He said he couldn’t remember the phone call with the alleged victim, even after deputies described the specifics of the conversation.

Leon was arraigned Monday afternoon in 1st District Court, appearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with one count of rape of a child, a first-degree felony; and eight counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.

Judge Thomas Willmore ordered Leon to be held in jail and appear again in court next Monday.

Leon could face up to life in prison, if convicted.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
