LOGAN — A 21-year-old Newton man already on probation for multiple drug convictions has been arrested for allegedly filming an underage girl getting dressed. Jaden Nathaniel Smith was booked Friday, July 5, into the Cache County Jail.
According to the arrest affidavit, on May 1, Smith was meeting with his probation agent. During the visit, he was showing the agent pictures on his phone of his new vehicle wheels, when he allegedly displayed child pornography.
The agent contacted Cache County Sheriff’s deputies, reporting there were several photos and videos of nude girls on the phone. Investigators conducted a forensic download of the phone, finding several pictures and videos of nude males and females.
One of the videos was of a teenage girl getting dressed. Deputies were able to identify and question her. She confirmed that Smith had taken the video, the probable cause statement detailed.
According to court records, Smith was arraigned Monday, July 8, in Logan’s 1st District Court. He was charged with aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, a first-degree felony.
Judge Angela Fonnesbeck ordered Smith to be held without bail and appear again in court July 15. He could face up to life in prison, if convicted.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
