SALT LAKE CITY — Following the May opening of the new Temple Square Visitors’ Center, officials with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are releasing more free tickets for the facility’s highly anticipated “Inside a Temple” guided tour.
Beginning June 1, reservations for the 30-minute guided experience will be released in batches every other Monday. The updated rolling reservation window has been extended, allowing guests to secure their tour spots up to 75 days in advance.
While the 39,800-square-foot Christ-centered facility is open to the public for walk-ins daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., reservations are exclusively required for the “Inside a Temple” tour. This immersive experience on the lower level leads guests through full-scale replicas of sacred temple spaces, including a welcome desk, baptistry, instruction room, sealing room and celestial room. Officials note these spaces are built to full temple standards, though they are not exact replicas of the rooms inside the Salt Lake Temple.
If tour tickets are currently unavailable, visitors can check back during upcoming biweekly releases or download the Temple Square app on Apple or Android devices to receive notifications when new slots open. All reservations can be made online at TempleSquare.org or directly through the app. Admission and tours are free.
Visitors without tour tickets can still explore the center’s interactive walk-in exhibits. The west wing features a replica of Bertel Thorvaldsen’s “Christus,” while Christian Bolt’s Carrara marble sculpture, “Come Unto Me,” connects the two wings on the lower level. In the east wing, a historic scale model of the Salt Lake Temple mechanically opens during a five-minute presentation featuring narration and music. An additional lower-level display features 11 miniature temples and a temple globe to illustrate the global footprint of the houses of the Lord.
The center’s opening marks a major milestone ahead of the Salt Lake Temple Celebration, scheduled from April 5 to Oct. 1, 2027. Reservations for the Salt Lake Temple open house will become available starting Sept. 1. The new center continues a 179-year legacy on the square, maintaining a tradition of welcoming the public that began with volunteer guides in 1875.
