MENDON – When it comes to Pioneer Day in Cache Valley, it’s hard to beat Mendon’s week-long Pioneer Day celebration.

Wednesday, July 24, activities include Family Canoe Nite at 6 p.m. and Adult Canoe Race to begin at 6:30 p.m. The canoe activities are to be held at the swamp on the Valley View Highway.

Thursday, July 25 at 7 p.m. there will be a shotgun shoot to be held at Taylor Park, located at 200 E. 600 N. for participants 12 years and up.

Local musicians showed their talents during the Mendon Pioneer Celebration. 




The week was slammed with activities, including the sidewalk chalk art contests, canoe races, chili cook-off and more. The tournaments are for all skills and abilities. There are softball, horseshoes, spike ball, cornhole, ping pong, beachball volleyball, pickleball and bingo tournaments that culminate on Saturday.

Saturday, July 27, activities are when things really get going big time.

At 6:30 a.m. on Saturday is when things really get hopping with a a Sunrise Fun Run followed by the Fireman’s Breakfast and the 8 a.m. Flag Ceremony.

At 8:15 there is a pancake eating contes at the flagpole. There is also a Day Break Kids run at the ball diamond. Frisbee Golf begins at 10:30.







Willie home

The James G. Willie home in Mendon was restored and open during the Mendon Pioneer celebration to the public 




The quilt show will be held at the Mendon Station from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and the Willie home will be open for visits from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The parade on Main Street begins at 12 noon.

They have a vendor fair that begins at 11 a.m. and so does the hamburger stand.

The Great Race begins after the Pioneer Parade, that starts at noon. Parade organizers have designated a wet zone for those who want to be dowsed with water to stay cool.

The Mendon Great Race has teams of people doing over 20 events.

The week-long celebration ends with fireworks after the softball game.
