LOGAN — A man was seriously injured Saturday morning after his vehicle rolled in Logan Canyon, requiring an extensive rescue effort and the temporary closure of a section of US-89. The crash was reported at about 7:10 a.m. near mile marker 470.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Justin Zilles said the man, who was the only occupant of the truck, was traveling westbound toward Logan, when he went off the road near St. Anne’s Retreat. The truck hit the rock cliffs and rolled, coming to a rest on its top.
Multiple crews from the Logan City Fire Department responded, including Engine 70, Heavy Rescue 71, Rescue 120, Medic 70, and Battalion 70.
Zilles said the driver was trapped inside the truck. An extensive extrication was required by emergency crews because of the way the truck’s cab was crushed.
Due to the nature of the injuries and the remote location, troopers closed a section of the canyon in both directions to allow a medical helicopter to land on the roadway. The man, whose identity has not been released, was then airlifted to a hospital in stable condition.
Zilles said, based off of initial evidence, troopers suspect fatigue as the cause of the crash. No other vehicles were involved.
