LOGAN — A 37-year-old man has been arrested and charged with allegedly molesting a 15-year-old girl, according to police. Steven Anthony Hernandez was booked Saturday into the Cache County Jail.

According to the arrest affidavit, North Park Police officers received a report of the sex offense on July 1. The alleged victim’s mother explained that her daughter had been molested by Hernandez, a family acquaintance.

The 15-year-old girl was later interviewed by forensic investigators at the Cache Children’s Justice Center. She stated that Hernandez had come into her room and touched her inappropriately. The incidents had occurred over the last few days while her mother was out of town.

Police later questioned Hernandez. He stated that the alleged victim had instigated the recent incidents. He then requested an attorney.

Court records show, Hernandez was arraigned in 1st District Court Tuesday, appearing for the virtual hearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with three counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.

Judge Spencer Walsh set bail for Hernandez at $50,000 and ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim. Another court hearing was scheduled for July 13.

Hernandez is out of jail on pretrial supervision. He could face up to 15 years in prison, if convicted.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
