LOGAN – The City of Logan will observe the 17th annual Governor’s Declaration for an Idle Free Season on Monday, Sept. 3.
The public is invited to the event that will be held at 11 a.m. at the Carol and Jim Laub Plaza in downtown Logan.
Organizers of the Utah environmental occasion proudly announce that the 17th Annual Governor’s Idle Free Declaration will kick off the statewide initiative to reduce carbon emissions from idling motor vehicles for the upcoming 2024-2025 Winter Season.
With support from Utah mayors – who represent 75 percent of the state’s population — this event marks a significant stride toward cleaner air and reduced emissions, according to clean air advocates. The Logan observance will gather leaders and advocates of Utah’s continuing Idle Free campaign to highlight the collective effort for clean, emission-free air in our community.
The agenda will include the ceremonial reading of Gov. Spencer Cox’s Idle Free Declaration for 2024; keynote remarks by prominent air quality advocates; and the announcement of the winners of the Utah High School Clean Air Marketing Contest.
Guests at the event hosted by Mayor Holly Daines will include Tammie Bostick, representing the Utah Clean City Coalition; Bryce Bird, executive director of the state’s Division of Air Quality; Ed Stafford, a market professor at Utah State University; Fawn Groves, representing USU’s Advancing Sustainability through Powered Infrastructure for Roadway Electrification (ASPIRE) program; and Lindsie Smith, representing the Utah Clean Air Partnership.
This initiative has inspired statewide idle-free policies and generated real action at various levels, supported by a ten-second commitment to turn the key and prevent unnecessary idling.
The Utah Clean City Coalition works with vehicle fleets, fuel providers, community leaders and other stakeholders to identify community-driven choices that save energy and promote the use of alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies in transportation.
ASPIRE works to improve health and quality of life for everyone by catalyzing sustainability and equitable electrification across transportation industries.
The Utah Clean Air Partnership (UCAIR) is a statewide organization that aims to improve Utah’s air quality by working with a variety of stakeholders, including businesses, municipalities, school districts and individuals to promote and implement effective solutions to improve air quality.
The Carol and Jim Laub Plaza is located at 55 North Main Street in downtown Logan.
