LOGAN — A 24-year-old Logan who was convicted of having sex with a minor three years ago has been arrested on new sex assault charges. John M. Janisse was booked Friday into the Cache County Jail.

Janisse was arraigned in 1st District Court Monday afternoon, appearing by video from jail. He was charged with forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony; and lewdness by a sex-offender, a third-degree felony.

According to a deputy’s report, the sheriff’s office received a complaint from a woman in October. She claimed that Janisse exposed himself to her and then sexually assaulted her.

Deputies later interviewed Janisse. He admitted to both allegations.

During Monday’s arraignment, Cache County Deputy Attorney Griffin Hazard called Janisse a flight risk and asked the court to hold him without bail. He explained that the suspect already had other pending cases and several arrest warrants for failing to appear in court.

Judge Angela Fonnesbeck agreed with prosecutors and refused to allow Janisse bail. She also appointed him a public defender and ordered him to appear again in court later this month.

According to court records, Janisse was convicted of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a third-degree felony in 2017. He was ordered to serve 180 days in jail. He could now face up to 15 years in prison on the new charges.
