LOGAN — A 34-year-old Logan man will serve more than one year behind bars for a history of domestic violence. Carson Jacob Warr has been in the Cache County Jail since being arrested July 23, after kidnapping a woman and forcing her to drive him to Salt Lake City

Warr was sentenced Nov. 5 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated assault, amended to a third-degree felony.

According to prosecutors, Logan City Police officers received a delayed domestic dispute call in July. The victim explained how she was at Warr’s residence on May 25, when he began yelling at her about money. He reportedly pushed her into a kitchen counter, fracturing one of her ribs.

The woman told police, Warr took her phone and keys, forcing her to drive him to Salt Lake City. He then instructed her to withdraw $140 from an ATM, and took the money from her.

Police noted medical records and doctor statements confirmed the victim’s injuries. They also located bank statements and security footage, showing the woman withdrawing the cash.

During Wednesday’s sentencing, Warr apologized and expressed remorse for hurting the victim. He explained how his life had spiraled downward ever since his brother died.

The victim tearfully described the physical and emotional impacts the incident and similar occasions had caused her.

Cache County deputy attorney Dane Murray asked the court to send Warr to prison. He said a message needed to be sent that domestic violence is a problem in every community throughout the state.

Judge Angela Fonnesbeck sentenced Warr to serve 300 days in jail, followed by 36 months of probation. She also ordered him to complete an in-patient treatment program and have no contact with the victim.

Judge Fonnesbeck noted how Warr’s drug addiction had led to multiple crimes over the past five years. She praised the victim for her courage, refusing to give any credit for time already served and threatening to send the Logan man to prison if he doesn’t follow probation.
