LOGAN — A 33-year-old Logan man has been arrested for allegedly calling 911 repeatedly and biting a police officer, according to law enforcement. Joshua Thad Hunsaker was booked May 19 into the Cache County Jail.

According to a probable cause statement, Logan City Police officers were called to the Logan Regional Hospital on report that Hunsaker would not leave the facility. He had previously been trespassed from the hospital for allegedly making false reports.

ER staff had explained to police, they had reportedly told Hunsaker not to be there unless seeking medical care. Prior to the day of the arrest, he had attempted to check into the hospital twice. Security had walked him out of the building but he refused to leave.

Officers reported Hunsaker got onto a Connect Transit bus to allegedly try and evade law enforcement, according to court paper work.

Several officers responded to the scene and attempted to question Hunsaker. He allegedly refused their orders, resisted arrest, and bit the forearm of one of officers, breaking the skin.

Hunsaker was arraigned Wednesday during a virtual hearing in Logan’s 1st District Court, appearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with assault on an officer, interfering with a public servant and criminal trespass, all misdemeanors.

Cache County Deputy Attorney Aaron Jossie asked the court to hold Hunsaker without bail. He said prosecutors were in the process of filing an additional felony charge of emergency reporting.

Jossie explained how Hunsaker was already facing charges of making false reports to 911 in July 21, 2024. There were also several other pending cases in justice and district court.

Defense attorney Ryan Holdaway asked the court to consider bail. He said his client had struggled with substantial mental health issues.

Judge Brian Cannell ordered Hunsaker to remain in jail and appear again in court June 2.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
