LOGAN — A 38-year-old Logan man has confessed to breaking into an apartment and assaulting a woman this past summer. Brandon Lee Jones has been in the Cache County Jail since being arrested July 10.
Jones appeared Sept. 9, in Logan’s 1st District Court. He accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to unlawful detention and aggravated assault, both third-degree felonies. As part of the resolution, five remaining charges were dismissed.
According prosecutors, Logan City Police officers were called to a domestic dispute on report of a male individual seen dragging someone inside an apartment. The caller also reported hearing screaming and someone yelling for help.
When officers arrived at the apartment, a woman answered the door crying, shaking and acting scared. She identified the perpetrator as Brandon Jones, who had left moments earlier and walked over to the Cache Valley Transit Center.
Police located Jones laying on a bench. He originally denied being at the apartment and said he was at a friend’s house. He also explained that he did not lay a hand on the woman.
Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Jones. When asked how much alcohol he had drank, he reportedly replied, “not enough.”
The victim said law enforcement had been called to the apartment earlier in the night and advised Jones to leave. She explained that he left but came back later, climbing inside after breaking out a screen in the kitchen window. He then grabbed her, placed his hands around her throat and ripped out a chunk of her hair, and took her phone.
Police found the broken screen to the kitchen window. They also spoke to a neighbor, who had heard and seen some of the dispute.
Jones is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 21 and could face more than five years in prison.
