LOGAN — A 24-year-old Logan man previously convicted of trying to meet up to have sex with an undercover police officer, posing as a 13-year-old girl, is now facing new charges. Cameron Michael Ross has been in the Cache County Jail since being arrested in November 2023 for violating his probation.

Ross participated in a pretrial conference Monday, July 15, in Logan’s 1st District Court. He was previously charged with two counts of rape, a first-degree felony; three counts of aggravated assault and two counts of forcible sexual abuse; all second-degree felonies; and ten other felonies or misdemeanors.

According to an arrest affidavit, Logan City Police officers were called to investigate an assault, Nov. 5, 2023. The alleged victim reported her roommate, later identified as Ross, had allegedly strangled her.

The woman claimed Ross had become upset with her and began assaulting her. During the incident, he reportedly placed his hands on her neck and began to strangle her to the point she lost consciousness.

Police officers reported the alleged victim had injuries consistent with strangulation, the affidavit of probable cause detailed.

In January 2023, Ross was sentenced to 200 days in jail for enticing a minor by internet or text, a second-degree felony.

Four months earlier, Ross began engaging in online chats with a Logan City Police officer. He also sent an inappropriate photo of his privates, while arranging to meet at a park near his home.

Ross told the officer he wanted to have sex with her. A time and place was arranged to meet.

When Ross showed up at the predesignated spot, he texted police that he’d arrived. Law enforcement surrounded him and took him into custody without incident.

Following the latest arrest, Ross remains in jail without bail. He could face up to life in prison, if convicted.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
