Lafond Pope Hall passed away on March 30, 2022. She was born on January 7, 1929 in Lewiston, Utah, the daughter of Clive Arden and Sylva Harrison Pope. LaFond lived in Garden City for her first nine years. Her family then moved to a ranch 20 miles south of Cokeville, WY, where she was able to develop an appreciation for hard work, family values and a deep sense of pride in doing jobs right. She loved being a cowgirl and developed a true love for horseback riding. She often drove a team of horses pulling a hay rake and worked long hours on the ranch with her family.

She graduated from Cokeville High School. Following her high school graduation, Lafond started college at the University of Wyoming where she graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Education. She taught school for 2 years, one year in Preston and one year at home in Cokeville. After a couple of years of teaching, Lafond was inspired to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was called to serve in Switzerland. While in the missionary training center she met a handsome young man, Ray McCord Hall, who would later steal her heart. Following their respective missions (Ray in England) the two were married on December 21, 1954 in the Logan Temple.

Ray and LaFond wasted no time starting their family and within ten years they had four sons and two daughters. During this time Lafond decided to further her education and graduated with her Master’s degree from BYU in Education/Counseling. She continued her teaching career and taught at many schools in Paris, Idaho, Bancroft, Idaho and finally for many years at Box Elder High School in Brigham City, Utah teaching English, Journalism and serving as a Counselor at the school. After many years in Brigham City Lafond and Ray moved to nearby Perry, Utah where they enjoyed many happy years together until 2012 when Ray passed away. Lafond remained in Perry until her death and lived there happily with Leda who provided her many years and countless hours of companionship, help and all manner of assistance.

LaFond was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in a variety of callings. She loved teaching the Gospel Doctrine Class and was a gifted Gospel Scholar. Later in life she became a Family History Specialist. After retiring Ray and Lafond served three family history missions. One in Louisville, KY; one in Green Bay, WI and one at Temple Square in Salt Lake. LaFond was privileged to serve in the Brigham City temple for several years after Ray’s death.

Lafond was a gifted and accomplished story writer and poet, and some of her work has been published in church publications. She often wrote personalized poems for her family’s special occasions. She was kind and thoughtful and was known by many for her delicious cinnamon rolls, which she graciously shared with her family and neighbors. And Christmas won’t be the same without her famous homemade “Hardtack” Candy.
