LOGAN — A 26-year-old Logan man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 2023 has been cleared of all charges. Benson Edward Hegemann was found “not guilty” following a three day jury trial in Logan’s 1st District Court.
According to court records, the jury deliberated for almost three-and-a-half hours Friday night before reaching their verdict, acquitting Hegemann on all charges.
Logan City Police officers had begun investigating Hegemann last year after receiving the sexual assault claim that had allegedly occurred at a student housing complex near the Utah State campus. The alleged victim had said Hegemann allegedly began groping her while the two were on a date.
Hegemann was arrested and later charged with three counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony; and sexual battery, a class A misdemeanor.
Following the jury’s decision, Judge Spencer Walsh ordered the case against Hegemann closed. He also ordered the defendant’s bail be fully refunded.
