August 30, 1957 – April 30, 2023 (age 65)

James (Jim) Bret Skidmore passed away April 30, 2023, peacefully surrounded by his three children. He is preceeded in death by his loving parents and sweetheart, Jane Probst Skidmore.

James Bret Skidmore was born to Leroy Albert Skidmore Jr. and Vilo Adams Skidmore on August 30, 1957, in Tooele Utah. Jimmy was the baby of the family with older siblings Elizabeth Skidmore Brown (Ron Brown) and David Skidmore (Becky). He had a wonderful childhood and would often tell friends and family of his many adventures with his family, the scouts, as well as neighborhood friends.

Jim served an LDS mission in Denmark. He truly loved this time and carried traditions he learned into his family for the rest of his life. He loved the language and would often practice it later in life.

After returning from his mission, he attended Utah State University where he met many life long friends, including his sweetie, Jane Probst Skidmore. He was insistent and eventually won her heart and married her in the Salt Lake Temple June 18, 1982.

Jim worked as a lab tech and phlebotomist while attending Pharmacy School. They lived in Brigham City, Ogden and American Fork where they met life long friends. During this time they welcomed three children to their family: Jed James (Jennifer), Joni Stone (Ryan) and Jordan K (Emily). Jim worked hard balancing school and work so that Jane could stay home with their young children.

After graduating from pharmacy school they moved back to Logan where he became the pharmacist at Logan Regional Pharmacy. Jim loved this job and took pride in helping all those that walked into his pharmacy. Just a few years after he got his dream job, he was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy and within a short time had to retire, as his muscles began deteriorating.

Jim then became his wife’s and childrens’ biggest support and helped them with homework assignments, crazy projects, and encouraged them in all of their dreams.

Jim always had a smile on his face and found ways to keep himself happy while restrained to a chair, as he lost most of his strength in his legs and arms. He took wonderful pictures, loved geneology, and enjoyed participating in various church callings.

His sweetheart, Janie, passed away June of 2021, he missed her dearly and began having more and more health issues, making his life even more challenging. Even with this, he continued smiling. He appreciated the many visits from friends and ward members. He especially enjoyed visits from his children and grandchildren: Jed and Jen skidmore(Kodiak Alaska)-Brock, Isabella, and Emmitt; Joni and Ryan Stone(Smithfield Utah)-Jaelynn, Payson, Maddi, and Cache; Jordan and Emily Skidmore (Kodiak Alaska)-Kendall Rae.

His family would like to thank Maple Springs staff for all the care they gave him, Hyde Park 9th ward members for all their visits and prayers, and Symbii Hospice staff for the extraordinary care they provided to him and his family.

While his family will miss him dearly, we are excited for him to be with his Janie, and be free of the mortal challenges he faced here on earth.

A viewing will be held on Saturday May 6, 2023 from 8 to 930 followed by funeral service at 10am. These will both be held at LDS church located at 65 East Center Street, Hyde Park UT.
