Boyd Clayne Wiser booking photo from the Cache County Jail.

LOGAN — A 59-year-old Hyrum has pleaded guilty to numerous child pornography, firearm and drug crimes. Boyd Clayne Wiser accepted a plea deal and will now await sentencing March 11.

According to court records, Wiser accepted a plea deal in 1st District Court. He pleaded guilty to ten counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony; possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a restricted person, both third-degree felonies.

As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to dismiss 30 remaining charges.

North Park Police officers began investigating Wiser after a North Logan manufacturing company reported finding inappropriate images of a young girl in a sexual position on his computer. A manager at the company discovered the pictures while transferring files from the defendant’s computer to an external hard drive.

The manager told officers that Wiser was the only person who had access to the computer. The files had been encrypted with a “very difficult password,” charging documents stated.

The computer was turned over to a forensics laboratory for analysis. Lab technicians later reported finding “over 400 images that appeared to be child erotica or related to child pornography,” according to law enforcement’s arrest affidavit.

On February 24, agents with the Cache Rich Drug Task Force executed a warrant to Wiser’s residence. Inside they found cocaine, seven firearms and other illegal substances.

Wiser was originally booked into the Cache County Jail and later released after posting $153,000 bond. He is scheduled to be sentenced March 11, and could face more than 15 years in prison.
