LOGAN – With local schools starting up this week, Logan City School District on Wednesday and the Cache County School District on Thursday, it was a timely appearance for Logan City School District Superintendent Frank Schofield to come onto KVNU’s For the People program this past week.
Schofield brought with him Logan High School Athletic Director Gordon Garrett along with high school Math teacher Rose Brown.
Garrett said parents can do a lot for their students to ease the transition back to school after the summer break.
He said it applies to parents as well as students.
“I think it’s important to go back into the school year and jump in with both feet. When it comes to experience, at least in part, the experience that we have depends on the kind of investment that we put into something, the kind of commitment that we put into something.
“So, one recommendation that I have for parents, and especially students too, just invest in it, invest in the process,” he explained.
Garrett said, that way, their experience will be greater from it.
Brown commented on how parents can help their students with subjects that the parents may struggle with as well, such as math.
“We have a lot of supports at Logan High to help students after school, teachers are always there and willing to help.
“But just reaching out to those teachers and seeing what opportunities there are for students to get extra help, or where can they get extra help, those parents are the ones that are going to help their kid become successful, even though they may not feel as strong in the subject as they need to, to be able to help their kids with it,” she said.
She said they even have Super Saturdays where students can come in for several hours to get help from teachers, in addition to after school help.
Brown said there’s even a bus during the week that will take kids home if they are not able to get a ride from a parent.
