LOGAN – The second annual Center Street Giant Pumpkin Festival is slated by Logan City officials on Saturday, Sept. 28.
The daylong event — sponsored by Anderson’s Seed and Garden, Cache Valley Bank and a host of other area businesses — will bring Center Street to life with live music, food, art, children’s activities and – of course – a giant pumpkin weigh-off.
The festival’s events will begin at 11 a.m. and continue throughout the day until 7 p.m., with the Center Street thoroughfare closed off to traffic between Main and 100 West streets.
A free Red – actually orange – Carpet Photo Experience will be available from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for families and other festival participants.
The Logan City Library will offer Story Times hourly from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Other family and kids’ activities are scheduled throughout the day, including the Center Street Giant Family Scavenger Hunt running from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Local bands will provide music from 11 a.m. to 4:20 p.m. on stage at the Carol and Jim Laub Plaza around the corner at 55 North Main Street across from the Logan Tabernacle.
The scheduled pumpkin weigh-offs will begin at 11 a.m. for area youths and from 11:30 am to 12:30 p.m. for specialty produce.
The Giant Pumpkin weigh-off will begin at 12:30 p.m. and continue to 4 p.m. The award ceremony for the winning pumpkin will be held at 4:30 p.m.
Photo opportunities with the winning Giant Pumpkin will be available from 5 to 7 p.m.
Other fun-filled fest events on Center Street will include a beer garden operated by Prodigy Brewing from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and menu items for sale from local food trucks.
The festival will offer numerous activities for children, including pumpkin decorating from 12 to 4 p.m.
From 2 to 3 p.m. the Crust Club will offer competitive Pumpkin Pie Eating Contests for multiple age groups at the Laub Plaza. Would-be contestants can sign up for this event throughout the day.
At the bottom of the hour from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., the Utah Theatre will present the animated free cartoon “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”
At 5 p.m., the Utah Theatre will screen the free animated feature “ParaNorman.”
The Center Street Giant Pumpkin Festival will climax with music and dancing by the Beatles tribute ensemble “The Lonely Hearts Club Band” from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Utah Theatre is located at 18 West Center Street.
