PRESTON – The Central Committee of the Franklin County Republican Party has rescheduled its reorganization meeting.
That gathering, which had previously been slated for May 30, has now been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 29.
The county reorganization meeting is now set for 7 p.m. in the Preston City Council Room, according to Todd Thomas, the chair of the Franklin GOP.
“The purpose of this meeting,” Thomas says, “is to elect the executive portion of the (Franklin Central) committee for a two-year term.
“Newly elected precinct committee members from West Precinct #15 and Banida/Winder Precinct #6 will also be installed and welcomed to the committee.”
Following the reorganization portion of the meeting, members of the Franklin GOP will select seven delegates to represent Franklin County at the Idaho Republican State Convention in Coeur d’ Alene on June 13 to 15.
Thomas explains that Franklin County GOP bylaws required that four of those seven delegates must be the county chairman, the youth committeeman, the state committeeman and the state committeewoman.
But state rules allow the remaining three delegates to come from non-committee members of the general public.
Those three delegates will be nominated and voted for approval by committee members at the May 29 meeting, along with possible alternative delegates.
The Franklin GOP also announced vacancies in the posts of precinct chairs for Preston #4, Preston #5, Treasureton/Riverdale #14 and Mink Creek #12. The Franklin central committee will appoint fellow Republicans to fill those positions at a schedule meeting in the next 30 days.
Thomas says that anyone interested in serve as a volunteer delegate or a precinct chair for those vacancies is encouraged to attend the meeting on May 29.
