LOGAN — Those looking forward to doing some early spring camping or picnicking can now access several lower area campsites in northern Utah.

Friday, US Forest Service rangers opened portions of several canyons to motorists.

The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest announced the canyon openings on their social media accounts. They include the first gates in High Creek and Green Canyon, along with Left Hand Fork, Card Canyon and Smithfield Canyon.

The Logan Ranger District reports Millville and Providence canyons are still not passable for wheeled vehicles. Tony Grove road is also covered with about 73 inches of snow. Most roads are expected to be opened by June 15 if not sooner depending on the weather.

Non-established campsites in the Green Canyon and High Creek campgrounds are open and accessible. Rangers are planning on opening most other established campgrounds May 13.

Campsites at Red Banks and Lewis M. Turner campgrounds will be opened June 3.

The Guinavah-Malibu Campground will be closed this year. The ranger district explained that the popular campsites in Logan Canyon will be closed for renovations and won’t open until 2023.

Motorists are being asked to avoid driving on roads that are snow covered, wet and muddy. Drivers can run the risk of getting stranded or damaging the road.
