BOX ELDER COUNTY — Firefighters are making progress on two wildfires that started Wednesday in separate areas of northwestern Utah. The two blazes have quickly burned approximately 800 acres and threatened nearby structures.

Officials with Utah Fire Info reported Thursday morning that the Willow Springs Fire is approximately 350 acres in size. The fire, west of Promontory Point, threatened structures in the area and prompted the evacuation of several homes. It is suspected to be human caused.

Fire managers said the fire is now 69% contained. Engines will remain on the scene, securing the fire’s edge and checking for interior pockets of heat.

At the same time, firefighters have also begun getting the Feedlot Fire under control. The blaze is located southeast of Howell, and south of I-84.

According to Utah Fire Info, the fire has grown to about 450 acres and is 10% contained. The blaze sparked Wednesday afternoon and was pushed by the wind.

The fire is believed to have been started by natural causes. Two structures were being threatened.

Firefighters said they expect to gain more containment with favorable weather conditions, low temperatures and higher humidity.
