He’s been the assistant chief of the Cache County Fire District. And until about a year ago, Travis Peterson lived what you might call a normal life. But then everything changed.

He was diagnosed with cancer that’s moved quickly into his lungs. And now he’s on borrowed time. Carl Brown, who went through wildland firefighter class with Peterson, is organizing a Fire Ride on June 18th that will begin at Saddleback Harley Davidson at 2359 North Main in Logan. Sign-up will be there as well as at Vesco’s in Brigham City. On KVNU’s For the People program on Wednesday, Brown said Travis was a very good teacher.

“He’s a really good man,” said Brown. “He’s fighting Stage 4 cancer and we’re just trying to raise funds for him to help out him and his family.”

Come early for breakfast at Saddleback between 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. The ride at 10 a.m. heads to the Brigham City Fire Station to pick-up more riders then to the Garland Fire Station and then on to Malad and Weston, Idaho. The ride ends at the Mendon Fire Station where dinner will be served between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The address to the fire station is 36 East 100 North in Mendon. Brown said in case you don’t make it to the ride but you still want to go and have dinner you are welcome there.

Early sign-up and more information can be found at www.fireride.org and you can call Carl at (435) 512-4667 for more information as well.
