Crews are investigating after a fire early Tuesday morning completely destroyed a home east of Bear Lake.
Garden City Fire Chief Mike Wahlberg said the fire was at 2080 North Black Bear Drive, near North Eden Canyon. A fire fighter who saw flames and smoke coming from the home was the first one to report fire.
“When we got here, we found the house fully engulfed and damage being done to the structure on the south side of it,” said Wahlberg. “The siding was starting to melt off and the fire was starting to extend to that structure so we concentrated our efforts on that structure.”
Crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to the nearby structure and an outside propane tank. There were no nearby fire hydrants so crews transported water in to fight the fire.
Wahlberg said there were no injuries and no one was in the home at the time.
“The home was unoccupied, however the residents were in the process of moving in. They had just sold their other home and property and were in the process last week of moving in.”
Crews from the Laketown Fire and Garden City Fire departments responded to the blaze.
Wahlberg estimated the damage at $500,000.
