LOGAN — A two alarm fire early Thursday morning destroyed an apartment and damaged several others at the Aggie Flats apartment complex, near 729 E. 900 N.

Logan City Fire Marshal Craig Humphreys said the fire was reported by a neighbor who called 911 just after 8 a.m. First crews arriving on the scene reported flames and heavy smoke coming from the back of one of the top apartments of the three story building.

The fire appeared to have started in one of the bedrooms and then spread into the attic. Crews reported none of the occupants were home at the time.

Humphreys said the fire completely destroyed the apartment. Four of the other 18 apartments in the building also sustained smoke and water damage.

There was one occupant, living in one of the other apartments, who police evacuated while crews battled the fire. He was later allowed to return to his apartment.

Humphreys said they are still trying to determine the cause of the fire and will assist the State Fire Marshal as they investigate. Damage is estimated at $100,000.
