LOGAN – It has been nearly three months since Ellis Bruch became Director of Public Safety at Utah State University. He oversees the USU police chief, fire marshal and the director of emergency management.
Bruch previously served as USU’s Emergency Management Director and soon after he came on board in August, 2019, he joined a leadership team coordinating USU’s response to the pandemic.
“Having all of the structure and all of the infrastructure and all of the resources that USU has available internally,” says Bruch, “made managing that quite a bit easier, in my opinion, than it would have been at a city or county level operation.”
He talks about his new responsibilities.
“The new role is strictly just administrative duties,” he explains. “So, that takes out a lot of the operational aspects. That’s why we have a Director of Emergency Management, that’s why we have a Fire Marshal and that is why we have a Chief of Police that can manage administrative level but also the operational level and my role is administrative.”
He said his top priority is the people at USU and doing all that can be done to make USU the best and safest place to be.
