February 20, 1964 – March 30, 2022 (age 58)

David Kent Day, age 58, of Logan, Utah passed away peacefully at home March 30, 2022. He struggled valiantly to the end after his diagnosis in the fall of 2019 with Metastatic Colon Cancer. David was born on 20 Feb 1964, in Hollister, California to Robert Movell Day and Blanche Brokaw. He is the third of six children. His first two years the family lived in Holland, then came back to the states and settled in San Jose, California. When Dave was seven the family moved to Modesto, California where he completed his primary education. During this time, Dave and his family learned the value of hard work, and persistence.

David graduated from Grace Davis High School in 1982 and went on a mission a year later. He served in the Idaho Boise Mission as a Spanish speaking missionary. His experiences punctuated his testimony of Jesus Christ and the need to serve others.

David graduated from Modesto Junior College, then CSU Stanislaus with a degree in history. He then earned a Master of Science degree in Instructional Leadership from National University before starting his career as a high school teacher and then an administrator. Dave enjoyed working with high school students and teaching history, government, and economics.

It was during the summer of 1987 that he met Lynette Flanary who was working in Yosemite. They married in December of that year in Oakland, CA and eventually settled in Turlock, CA where they spent many years raising 8 children encouraging them to live the gospel of Jesus Christ and pursue education to improve their lives. As a family they traveled extensively throughout the Western US camping and visiting relatives, church temples, and National and State parks.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. David served in many positions in the Church, including 5 years as a bishop. His callings were almost always involved in the youth programs. During these callings he became heavily involved with Scouting, including serving as a scout camp director and on the staff of several Wood Badge courses. He earned the District Award of Merit and Silver Beaver awards for his service at the council level. He was also able to attend the National Jamboree with most of his sons.

Dave always enjoyed working with people and valued his family relationships. He took great pride in his family’s accomplishments and shared his family values with those around him. Throughout Dave’s time as an educator and scout leader, he was able to travel to many parts of the US, act as a trainer on many subjects, and develop valuable friendships.

He is survived by his wife Lynette Day, and his children: Chelsea (Justin Adams), Joshua Day, Jeremy (Chelsea Ozbirn), Quinten (Lindsey Lopez), Carter (Chelsea Ralph), Tanner, Nathan and Rebeckah. He is also survived by his parents, Robert and Blanche Brokaw Day, his siblings: LaMar (Terry), Mark (Sydney), John (Angie), Jennifer (Scott Lund), Douglas (Ginger).

He is preceded in death by his grandson, Landon Randall Adams.

A Memorial/Luncheon (casual dress) will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1255 N. 600 E. Logan, UT 84341 at 3:00 p.m. for all who want to attend.

Interment at Logan Cemetery.
