NIBLEY – Excavating machinery is moving dirt, pipes are being laid and cement is being poured at 925 W. 3200 S. in Nibley for one of two middle schools that are under construction.

The Cache County School District (CCSD) has started construction on two Middle Schools in Cache Valley.

Jenda Nye, the CCSD director of communications, said the approximate location of the one in Hyde Park is at 300 S. 200 W. in Hyde Park.

In November of 2023, voters passed a $139 million general obligation bond proposition for the Cache County School District. The proposed projects include building two new middle schools, the construction of a new elementary school, and converting Spring Creek Middle School into an elementary school.

These additions will allow the district to move sixth grade out of the elementary schools and back to a middle school environment.

“We are actually using the same building plans; that’s one way to save taxpayer dollars,” she said. “Each one of the buildings will cost about $50 million.”

The proposed projects for this bond include the addition of two new middle schools, the construction of a new elementary school, and the conversion of the District’s smallest middle school (Spring Creek Middle School) into an elementary school. These additions will allow the District to move sixth grade out of the elementary schools and back to a middle school environment.

The district already owned the property next to Heritage Elementary School in Nibley; it was purchased in 2006. The property where the Hyde Park building is located was purchased after the bond was passed.

Each school will hold approximately 1200 students in grades sixth, seventh and eighth in the respective buildings.

“I would imagine we will be using existing teachers,” Nye said. “We hope to use teachers currently employed with the district.”

The hope is the new schools will alleviate some of the over crowding schools.

Right now, 11 of 17 elementary schools are overcrowded. With the new middle schools, the elementary schools should have more capacity to handle the student population.

The The two new middle schools are anticipated to be completed by the fall of 2026, and the new elementary school will be completed by the fall of 2027.

Safety and security enhancements at schools across the district have already begun.
