LOGAN – On a recent KVNU For the People program, CAPSA Chief Development Officer James Boyd was our guest. The organization recently ran a campaign entitled “You Matter” and Boyd said it was directed toward three groups of people.

“The idea is, there’s ultimately three audiences. There’s those who are survivors, letting them know they matter, often times you are isolated and trapped as a victim of domestic violence or sexual violence, you feel alone, and knowing that you matter.  And two, those who support this work, this donation has a greater impact on the lives of friends, family members, community members, in probably any other donation can.

“And you make this work happen. So when you say ‘how do we do this?’ It’s because our donors, and really every donation to CAPSA is a message to survivors that they matter,” Boyd explained.

And the last audience the campaign is directed to is their employees and volunteers. He said CAPSA has over 70 employees who are passionate and committed to the work.

“They’re doing literally miracles daily, our volunteers who respond to our hospitals, to our shelter in the middle of the night, our board of directors who are all volunteers. We can’t do this work without this whole community that surrounds us, and that’s really how we’re able to accomplish so much.”

And the organization, even with so much to do, is expanding. Boyd said they recently gave a tour to Preston Mayor Dan Keller.

“And in that tour, at the end he said ‘we have to have this up here, we have to have this up in Preston.’ So, for the last year, we’ve been working a little bit behind the scenes and opening doors. And we now are in the hospital, we have right now a day a week we’re up there, but we’re going up on call.

“But we’ve been fundraising so that we don’t dilute our services here in Utah. And we are excited, because we have enough funding to hire a full-time case worker and educator up in the Preston area, and we’re going to be doing that in late January or early February.”

He said the goal is to have a CAPSA of Idaho campus in the next couple of years. You can find out more at CAPSA.org and see how you can help.
