LOGAN — A 28-year-old Brigham City man has been arrested for allegedly molesting and grooming a young girl, according to law enforcement. Taegen Matsu Udy was booked Wednesday into the Cache County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies received a report in February from a woman, who claimed Udy had sexually assaulted her 9-year-old daughter approximately five years ago. The crime had allegedly occurred while the suspect had stayed the night at her residence.
A forensic interview with the victim was conducted at the Cache Children’s Justice Center. During questioning, the girl explained how Udy had molested her.
The victim’s mother also provided text messages Udy had reportedly sent her daughter, allegedly trying to groom her for more sexual activity. The messages included the suspect asking the girl for pictures of herself and discussing the alleged crime, according to the arrest affidavit.
Deputies reviewed the messages and found instances where Udy asked the girl not to tell anyone about their conversations. He also allegedly explained how to delete their text threads, telling her that no one would understand their relationship because of the age difference.
According to court records, Udy was charged in Logan’s 1st District Court with aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony; and enticing a minor, a second-degree felony. The charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison, if convicted.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
