March 3, 1978 – June 17, 2022 (age 44)

Brian Butts passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 17, 2022 in Brigham City, surrounded by his family after a valiant battle with brain cancer. Make no mistake, cancer didn’t win, Brian kicked its ass with everything he had right to the very end. Brian was born on March 3, 1978 in Salt Lake City and rocketed into the Butts family at 100 mph. Growing up in North Ogden, a neighbor claimed there wasn’t a tree in the neighborhood that Brian hadn’t been to the top of and he kept the local medical clinic busy with stitches and concussion evaluations. He graduated from St. Josephs High School in 1996 where he played soccer and ran cross country and remained close friends with many of his high school classmates. He was a great friend, always willing to lend a hand or make you laugh.

Brian married the love of his life, Stacy Brooks, on March 30, 2002, and together they started a family, Connor (19), Emma (17), William (14), and Halle (10). Brian’s children were the single-most source of joy in his life and he was beyond proud of each one of them. He loved the games, the practices, the cross country meets where you’d think he was part of the team with all the running he did to get to the best places to cheer on (yell at) his kids and their team, and the recitals even though he cried every time he watched his girls dance.

Brian’s early experiments with tweezers and a light socket and his childhood love of trains, developed into a career with Union Pacific Railroad and RailPros. He traveled throughout the country installing and wiring railroad crossings. Working outside, whether it was summer in Arizona or winter in Wyoming, he traveled and worked his rear off for his family. He developed close bonds with many guys on his crews, who shared long hours and days on the road away from their families.

Brian loved the Utah Jazz and especially the Green Bay Packers. His closest friend and brother, Tad, helped him fulfill a lifelong dream of seeing the Packers play in Lambeau Field this past November. Nearly as equally, he loved talking shit about the Dallas Cowboys. Whenever Green Bay wins, think of Brian.

Brian is survived by his wife and children, father, brother, and many other broken-hearted friends and family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations to help Stacy and the kids can be made at America First Credit Union account #9124223 under Stacy Butts.

A celebration of Brian’s life will be held in early fall for family and friends to laugh and share Brian stories. Per his wishes, a beer will be dumped on the head of anyone wearing BYU, Lakers or Cowboys gear. Afterwards, his family and close friends will join Brian on his last hike, to Ben Lomond Peak, where he will become part of the majestic mountain overlooking Ogden, just as he will be watching over his family.

Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at Gillies Funeral Chapel.
