BOX ELDER COUNTY — The Box Elder County Sheriff’s deputy who survived a shooting that killed two officers has made his first public comments since his release from the hospital.
In a social media post early Wednesday morning, Deputy Mike Allred said, “My heart breaks for the loss of my two Brothers, my friends. There is no doubt in my mind that they would do the same for me!!”
Allred and his K-9, Azula, were among the officers who immediately responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a home near 700 North and 200 East in Tremonton. They were shot and injured by gunfire, while still in their patrol vehicle.
Allred said, “My heart aches for (Lee Sorensen’s and Eric Estrada’s) families, all of my Brothers and Sisters who do this job. We may have different colors of uniforms but we all work together and are one big team. We are all hurting.”
Reportedly, after being shot, Allred was still able to call in essential information and redirected incoming officers on how to approach the scene. Box Elder County Sheriff Kevin Potter said that Allred’s actions saved lives.
“Right now I’m broken, pissed, sad and confused. Azula is healing and will be fine. We will be fine,” Allred said. “…If I could ask one thing to come from this senseless tragedy, don’t forget how much love and support is being handed out right now.”
