Bear Lake Watch is committed to preserving the pristine beauty of the “Caribbean of the Rockies.” Most recently the organization has been working on three major concerns of the Bear Lake Eco System.

1. Eurasian Watermilfoil: this fast-spreading aquatic plant threatens to entangle your legs, paddle, and propeller. But most of all, it disrupts the lake’s delicate ecosystem.

2. Sediment from the Bear River: these particles are steadily accumulating, clouding the waters and affecting both water quality and aquatic life. USU has estimated that the Bear River dumps 5.5 Olympic swimming pools of sediment daily into the lake.

3. Trash: with over a million visitors traveling to enjoy the lake yearly, the amount of trash and pollution is increasing each year.

Scientific studies of these and other concerns are crucial to understanding and combating issues but require substantial resources. Financial support is vital to continuing the research, implementing effective solutions, and safeguarding Bear Lake for future generations.

The critical work Bear Lake Watch has or is involved with for Bear Lake is on the website at
