BOX ELDER COUNTY — Law enforcement and family have released the identity of the 28-year-old Hyrum man killed Tuesday morning in a rollover accident in Collinston. Trevor Mabey was killed after being partially ejected in the crash.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden said Mabey was driving a white 2001 Ford F-250 pickup truck northbound at 14500 North SR-38 around 9:10 a.m. Near Central Milling, the truck clipped a 2005 Mazda 3 passenger vehicle that was southbound.

The truck ended up going off to the right, onto the shoulder and then over correcting back to the left, and then rolling. Mabey was partially thrown out of the cab and died as a result of his injuries at the scene.

The impact of the collision also peeled the metal off of the driver’s side doors of the Mazda. The 23-year-old driver was uninjured and did not need any medical care.

Mabey’s sister-in-law, Tarra Tippets said they are heartbroken with Trevor’s tragic death. She described him as a hard working father, who was always helping with different projects.

Troopers report both the Ford and the Mazda were perfectly matched in the middle of the road. They are still trying to determine whether one of the vehicles crossed over the median and caused the two to sideswipe each other.

First crews on the scene reported the white truck upside down in the road, partially blocking traffic in both directions. Mabey was found under the truck already deceased.

Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

Mabey leaves behind a wife and two-year-old son. Tippets described how her brother-in-law was family’s rock through difficult times and always supported his wife.

Family members have created a GoFundMe account to assist Mabey’s family with bills and funeral expenses.

Troopers did not report whether either occupant was wearing a seatbelt. They are also investigating whether impairment, distraction or fatigue played a factor in the crash. SR-38 was closed for several hours.
