LOGAN — Mountain Crest girls basketball guard Aspen Leishman and Green Canyon boys basketball guard Jared Anderson have been named the Girls and Boys Cache Valley Media Group Prep Players of the Week, Presented by McDonalds, for the past week.

Leishman led the Lady Mustangs to a 2-0 week, with wins over Green Canyon and Bear River. Against the Bears, Leishman earned Player of the Game honors as she scored 18 points which included four made 3-pointers to help power MC to victory. For the week, Leishman averaged 15.5 points and helped get the Mustangs into a tie for second place in the Region 11 standings.

Anderson also helped his Wolves to a 2-0 week as they downed Mountain Crest and Logan. In the latter game, Anderson scored 29 points, his highest scoring total since early December, to help Green Canyon avenge a loss to the Grizzlies earlier this year. This is Anderson’s second Player of the Week honor this season.

Other nominations for this week’s awards included Liam Guthrie (Sky View boys) Bridger Barfuss (Bear River boys), Jordan Child (Logan boys), Carson Cox (Ridgeline boys), Joseph Hunsaker, Makena Smart (Sky View girls), Saydee Pebley (Bear River girls), Janalynn Blotter (Green Canyon girls) and Emilee Skinner (Ridgeline girls).

Candidates for the Player of the Week award were nominated by Cache Valley Media Group staff and voted on by all CVMG high school broadcast staff and crew, including “Hurricane” John Newbold, Rex Davis, Jason Walker, Adam Loertscher, Trent Carter, Josh Theurer, Dave Simmons, “The Patriot” Nick Zollinger, Jake Ellis, “The Coach” John Olsen, Stockton Jewkes, Terrell Baldwin and Eric Frandsen.
