LOGAN — A 23-year-old Arizona man has been arrested after allegedly driving drunk and causing a crash in Logan. Damiano Michah Slim was booked into the Cache County Jail early Tuesday morning.

According to an arrest affidavit, Logan City Police officers observed Slim driving a vehicle with no rear lights late Monday night. As they began to follow, the vehicle attempted to make a left hand turn onto US-89/91 and struck another motorist.

Slim allegedly continued driving, leaving the scene of the accident.

Police activated their emergency lights and attempted to stop Slim but he reportedly continued to drive without pulling over. Eventually the vehicle stopped in a parking lot.

Officers contacted Slim and a passenger in the car. There were “many open containers of alcohol in the vehicle,” the affidavit stated.

Police observed the odor of alcohol coming from Slim. They asked him to perform a field sobriety test, where he showed signs of being intoxicated.

Slim was transported to the police department. He submitted to a breathalyzer test, which showed he had a blood alcohol level above .05.

Police later found Slim’s driver’s license had been suspended. Also, the vehicle had no insurance and a revoked registration.

Slim was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in 1st District Court, appearing by web conference from jail for the virtual hearing. He was charged with failing to stop at the command of law enforcement, a third-degree felony; along with eight other misdemeanors and infractions.

Judge Brian Cannell allowed Slim to be released from jail on pretrial supervision and assigned him a public defender. He also ordered him to appear again in court next Monday.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
