LOGAN — A 27-year-old Logan man has confessed to sexually abusing a young girl earlier this year. Alexis Yoshimar Vilcapoma-Salaman was arrested in April after he and the victim were found in a parked car.

According to court records, Vilcapoma-Salaman appeared Monday in Logan’s 1st District Court. He accepted a plea deal, pleading “no contest” to aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

As part of the resolution, prosecutors dismissed two remaining charges. The plea meant he conceded the charge alleged without admitting guilt or offering a defense.

According to prosecutors, Logan City Police officers found a lone vehicle parked near the Willow Park Sports Complex around 3:30 a.m. on April 17, 2023. They reported the car was shaking and the windows were fogged.

Police said Vilcapoma-Salaman appeared “very nervous and sweating.” They also located a 12-year-old girl in the back seat.

The victim told police she was having sexual relations with Vilcapoma-Salaman during the night. She also had multiple bruises on her neck.

Police located several used and unopened condoms inside the vehicle.

Vilcapoma-Salaman told police he knew the victim was underage but blamed her for instigating the activity. He knew the girl after previously living with her family, a probable cause statement detailed.

Police noted that Vilcapoma-Salaman did not have permission or authority from the child’s parents to have custody of her, which originally led him to being charged with child kidnapping.

Vilcapoma-Salaman remains in the Cache County Jail, being held with on $20,000 bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 30, when he could face up to life in prison.
